I had the BEST time at Lynn and Mike’s wedding reception. I have done pictures at a Kenyan wedding before where everyone knew every dance to every song. I thought it was all about the culture. Well, I have decided it must be all about the culture, ESPECIALLY for people from South Dakota. Mike is from SD and his family came to celebrate his marriage. They were so fun! Here are some examples of what I’ve dubbed Dakota Dancing.
In this first example, these 4 boys had some pretty neat moves to “Cottonhead Road”. They involved some heavy stomping. Notice, no drinks were spilled in the performance of this dance. Pure Talent!
Mike taught Lynn some super nifty two stepping. She was a great sport and caught on very quickly.
Then came the money dance. Lynn and Mike are a fairly competitive couple. So, what better way to encourage this than with a competition to see who can get the most money for the honeymoon. I think Lynn wasn’t quite prepared for this one. But, Lynn won.
I’m sorry I didn’t ACTUALLY delete this picture, Mr. Groomsman! It’s too funny to delete!
I saved the best for last. I have NO idea where or how this dance initiated, but this was my favorite! I think the idea is to lay on the ground and kick like a dead bug. It only goes with one song which I can’t remember the name of at the moment, but these are all SD folks. Without further adieu, here is the “Dead Bug Dance”. It’s gonna be the next big thing in MS. Get ready!
And because I think the next picture is just super sweet because it has my super awesome teacher assistant in it, I’m posting it.
(And I love the fact the kid is running around in the wife beater. It was SO hot and you know you’d be doing it too!)
